Star Shoe Shop

Amnir Karieyel, called Alex , is a Uzbekistan native who came to NY with his brother 

Misha in the 80’s. ( Misha has a shoe repair shop on East 9th Street in the East Village ).
Alex bought the Star Shoe Shop 1996 from a South American, whose son
Jose Ledezma  stayed on as a shoe repair specialist and is still working there today.
He was originally a car mechanic in Nicaragua before his dad recruited him to work
in the New York shop. All in all this shop has been around for more than 60 years.
This is one of those places that you just have to experience, these tiny shops might
all be gone one day......
Thanks to a tip from a friend I was lucky to catch these guys just before they moved
a few doors west. The address is still the same, a basement next to Two Boots Pizza.
